A study of temporal pattern of important poultry diseases in India

A comparative study for the impact of eight important diseases in poultry has been carried out. The highest contribution to all cases and deaths was due to Infectious Bursal disease followed by Ranikhet disease and Coccidiosis. The number of cases due to Coccidiosis, Fowl Cholera, Ranikhet disease and all diseases and number of deaths due to Fowl Cholera followed cyclic variation over years with parabolic trend of duration about 7 years. The number of deaths due to Duck Plague showed quadratic trend (1992–2004). The number of cases and deaths due to Infectious Bursal disease, number ofcases due to Fowl Pox and Duck Plague and number ofdeaths due to all diseases followed decreasing trend. The overall ranking reveals that the Infectious Burasal disease caused maximum loss followed by Ranikhet disease, Coccidiosis, Chronic Respiratory Disease, Duck Plague, Fowl Pox, Salmonellosis and Fowl Cholera.
