Data from 120 farmers were analyzed on adoption behaviour of Giriraja, a coloured backyard poultry variety in Karnataka state. Recommended practices were well adopted by farmers and adoption was medium to high with significant (P<0.01) increase in flock size. Attractive colour, low rearing cost, higher weight gain, more egg production than local birds, more income, higher adaptability, and disease resistance were the reasons for adoption. Related implications for research and extension agencies for further improvement and propagation of Giriraja backyard poultry variety are discussed.
