Abstract

A study was conducted to assess aflatoxin deposition and its clearance from the tissues of broiler chickens. Aflatoxin B1 at one ppm level was fed to broiler chicken from day-old to 56 days of age. Aflatoxin B1 feeding resulted in increase in tissues residues of aflatoxin B1 to reach a plateau at second week. Aflatoxin B1 deposition was more in the liver compared to leg and breast muscles. Aflatoxin deposit was rapidly cleared from the tissue once normal feeding was restored. The level of aflatoxin B1 came down significantly both in liver and muscles after five days of its withdrawal. No residue was detectable in the tissues after 15 days of withdrawal.
