The primers specific to CHD-W/Z sequence (P2 and P8) were used explore size variation in the intronic region of CHD-W and CHD-Z genes and utilize this variation in sex differentiation in chicken, guinea fowl, quail and turkey. In chicken, two bands (360 bp and 376 bp) were observed in female, while only one band (360 bp), was observed in male while in guinea fowl, turkey and quail only one band was observed in both the sexes. In guinea fowl and turkey, the size of this band was 360 bp, but in quail, it was 380 bp in size. Hence in the domestic galliformes species, the polymorphism in the intronic region of CHD-W and CHD-Z genes was quite evident, however, P2 and P8 primers, which were very effective in sex differentiation in chicken, cannot be used in the related galliformes species.
