Abstract

The Toll-like receptor (TLR) family of cell surface molecules represents a major component of the pattern recognition system, which enables both vertebrates and invertebrates to detect invading microorganisms and mounts an anti-microbial response. In this study, the mRNA expression patterns for chTLR7, in a wide range of chicken tissues(brain, kidney, liver, lung, duodenum and heart) has been determined by semi-quantitaive PCR. For comparing the expression of chTLR7 between different tissues the chicken tissue cDNA pools were normalised by RT-PCR to the house keeping gene ~-actin. chTLR7 expressed in most tissues, and was highest in lung. This understanding of the chTLR7 repertoire for different tissues would allow more refined interpretation of immune induction in response to chicken pathogens.
