Abstract

The CARI coloured broiler dam line was established by procuring 625 fertile eggs from CARI, Izatnagar (U.P.). The average percent fertility was 79.52%, while the percent hatchability on total egg set and fertile egg set were 67.36 and 84.71%, respectively. The mean body weight at six weeks of age was 1.440±0.01 kg, 1.300±0.01 kg and 1.360±0.008 kg, in male, female and combined sex, respectively. The average age at first egg was 176.92±1.09 days. The weight at first egg and at 40 weeks of age was 49.01±0.40 g and 63.62±0.43 g, respectively. The average shape index, percent albumin ratio, albumin index, percent yolk ratio, yolk index and Haugh unit at 40 weeks of age were 76.18±0.37, 53.670.31, 0.054±0.002, 31.56±0.32, 0.439±0.004 and 78.84±1.25, respectively.
