Abstract

A total of 134 cases of duck mortality were recorded during the study period from December 2007 to June, 2009. The following disease conditions were recorded during the study in Assam omphalitis-3D cases, pneumonia-23 cases, pox-23 cases, septicaemia -20 cases, aflatoxicosis-18 cases, duck plague-6 cases, oophoritis and salpingitis-5 cases, rickets-3 cases, necrotic enteritis-l case, neoplasm-l case and undiagnosed-4 cases. Among the age group, day-old to 2 months showed highest mortality due to omphalitis-3D cases, 2–5 months showed highest mortality due to pox-8 cases and adult group also showed highest mortality due to pox-IS cases. Among the pneumonia cases, 11 number of ducks showed mycotic pneumonia. During the study period Escherichia coli (38), Salmonella (9) and Pasteurella multocida (7) were isolated from different disease conditions. It can be concluded that in Assam, duck can suffer from many diseases. Therefore, by maintaining proper managemental practices and good hygiene the morbidity as well as mortality can be minimized.
