Nutritional evaluation of goat waste as feedstuff for poultry

Abstract

Biological evaluation of goat waste with or without commercial enzyme supplementation was undertaken to find out the maximum limit of incorporation waste in the broiler diet replacing either rice bran or maize or both. It was oven dried at 60°C for 24 hr and was analyzed for proximate composition, neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber and available carbohydrate. Day-old synthetic pure line broiler chicks (n=192) were distributed into 8 dietary treatments, goat waste replacing energy feed ingredients (rice bran totally and maize partially) having basal diet, D1(CP, 21.18%; CF, 2.3%; ME, 2865 kcal/kg), viz. D2 (10%), D3 (20%) and D4 (30%). For utilization of above diets 0.4 g enzyme feed supplement per kg was supplemented and groups named as E1, E2, E3 and E4 respectively. Thus experiment on eight diets following completely randomized design. Dried goat waste was found to be a good source of true protein, crude fiber, crude fat, total ash, calcium, phosphorus, manganese, zinc, copper and iron. The ME of dried goat waste ranged from 866 to 1043 kcal/kg. A biological trial suggested that dried goat waste could be incorporated in the broilers diet up to 20% level by replacing rice bran completely and maize partially without any adverse effect on body weight gain, feed consumption and feed efficiency ratio. Addition of enzyme feed supplement had no beneficial effect on performance of broilers.
