Abstract

Avian leukosis virus (ALV) infection can lead to tumors of different organs. To study the effect of ALV infection on the gross semen parameters pedigree males were grouped into ALV positive and negative birds. Semen was removed by abdominal massage and evaluated for volume, appearance, motility, sperm concentration, MTT dye reduction assay, live, dead and abnormal sperms. Analysis of the data revealed no significant difference in the parameters studied between the two groups. The data suggests that ALV infection of males does not affect the semen production capacity of testis and gross semen parameters.
