Effect of threonine supplementation to diets with reduced crude protein in commercial broiler

A study was conducted to observe the effect of threonine supplementation in the diet of commercial broilers with reduced level of crude protein. Vencobb 400 commercial broilers were fed least cost diets formulated to the same required metabolizable energy without added crystalline L-threonine (A) and with L-threonine at 0.05 (B), 0.10 (C) or 0.15 (D) per cent levels balanced with appropriate amino acid profile. The object was to observe if and at what point, performance was negatively affected by dilution in protein. From overall study it was indicated that reduction of protein and supplementation of L-threonine at different levels did not adversely affected performance, rather helped in gaining similar body weights, reduced feed cost and increased the profit margin as compare to control group. The net profit per bird was highest (Rs 21.09) in group B, followed by groups C (Rs 20.61), D (Rs 18.98) and A (Rs 13.78). It was noticed that the bird receiving synthetic L-threonine had higher profit margins as compare to the control group. It can be concluded that supplementation of synthetic L-threonine beyond 0.05 percent could not reveal additional benefit in rising the production performance of commercial broilers.
