Abstract

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of dietary supplement at ion of coriander seed powder (CSP) on production parameters, egg quality traits and sensory attributes in laying quails. The experiment was conducted on 80, eight weeks old laying quails following completely randomized design (CRD) wherein CSP was fed at four dietary levels (0, 1, 2 and 3%). All the laying quails were distributed randomly into four dietary treatment groups (T1 to T4) on the basis of similar egg production. Each treatment had 20 replications containing one bird per replication. The feeding trial was conducted for six weeks. The birds were housed in specially designed laying cages with watering, feeding and egg collection facilities and were reared under standard managemental conditions. The corn-soyameal (CS) based basal diet was supplemented with desired levels of CSP to formulate the four experimental diets. During trial, the weighted amount of experimental diets differing in levels of CSP was offered as mash ad libitum to respective groups of birds. The results revealed that the production parameters like body weight, FCR, egg production and feed cost per kg egg production of laying quails did not significantly alter due to different dietary treatments. Similarly, egg quality traits like egg shape index, egg shell weight, egg shell thickness, egg shell specific gravity, albumen index, Haugh unit, egg yolk index, egg yolk colour and egg sensory attributes were also similar in all the experimental diets. Feed intake and egg weight significantly increased as compare to control group.
