The present study was conducted to evaluate two Indian native chicken breeds namely, Aseel and Kadaknath for their growth and carcass traits under deep litter system. Body weight, gain in body weight and different carcass weights (g) viz., live body weight, dressed weight, eviscerated weight, thighs, breast, drumsticks, heart, liver, gizzard, lungs, intestines weight were evaluated. The body weight was significantly (P<0.05) higher in Aseel than Kadaknath except at 1st week of age. The body weight gain was also significantly (P<0.05) higher in Aseel than Kadaknath for all the age groups. The body weight was increased linearly in both the breeds. All the carcass traits except liver, gizzard and intestines were significantly (P<0.05) higher in Aseel than Kadaknath. These two native breeds are differed in growth rate as well as various carcass traits and may help in purpose based backyard poultry farming.
