An experiment was conducted to study the influence of feeding exogenous α-amylase supplemented diets on performance traits in broiler chicken. Seventy five, day old chicks were randomly divided into 3 treatments (T1 T2 and T3), each consist of five replicates with five chicks in each replicate. Diet of T1 group was standard broiler diet (positive control diet) without enzyme supplementation. Diet of group T2 was same as @ except that this diet was deficient in energy by 100 kcal ME/kg diet (negative control diet). Diet of group T3 was same as T2 except that this diet was supplemented with α-amylase @ 80 g/ton. At the end of the trial, birds fed amylase- supplemented diet grew faster and had better feed conversion (P<0.05) than broilers fed negative control diet. The retention of proteins was significantly improved by supplementation of amylase in low energy diet. Supplementation of amylase in negative control diet (T3) significantly (P<0.05) increase the dressed, eviscerated and drawn weights of broilers. It was concluded that amylase supplementation @80 g/ton improved overall performance, digestibility of crude protein and ether extract as well as carcass trait of broilers fed low energy based diets.
