Abstract

Indian Journal of Poultry Science, 55(3): 199-203.An experiment was conducted with 120 day old straight run broiler chicks to evaluate the effect of supplementation of protexin, organic acid and combination of the two on the performance of broiler. The dietary treatments were control group (T1), 1 g protexin/5 lit of water (T2), 3 ml organic acid/lit of water (T3) and 0.5 g protexin/5 lit of water + 1.5 m1 organic acid/lit of water (T4). 2068 g, 2225 g, 2167 g and 2300 g body weight were gained at 35 days of age in T1, T2 T3 and T4 group respectively and the difference were statistically significant at 3rd- 4th and 5th week. Feed consumption during the experimental period of 35 days were non-significant at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days whereas, significantly difference was found at 35 days of age where treatment group T1 showed higher consumption. Feed conversion ratio was significantly different at 7, 21,28 and 35 days of experiments whereas non-significant at 14 days of age. No mortality was observed in any treatment throughout the experimental period. So livability was 100%. The supplementations of additives increased the production cost of broiler rearing slightly but improve the net return of broiler chickens.
