Assessing the impact of papaya peel powder inclusion on performance and nutrient digestibility in Japanese quails

A trial was conducted to assess the effect of inclusion of papaya peel powder (PPP) on the performance and nutrient digestibility in quails. Random distribution of day old (average body weight of 8.0±0.5g) Japanese quails (N=150) was done into five groups each having three replicates of 10 birds. Experimental birds were maintained in a 14.2×36×36 inch cage and fed with diets containing different levels of PPP (0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5 and 6.0%). and fed for 5 weeks of age. The results indicated a significant increase in the body weights, body weight gains from 0 to 3% level of inclusion of PPP in diets. Feed conversion ratio (P<0.01) was better in groups fed with 3% of PPP. Significantly better nutrient metabolizability was noticed up to 3% level of incorporation of PPP. Birds fed with 3% level of PPP in diet shown higher profit (Rs. 45/-) per kg gain over the control. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the PPP can safely be included up to 3.0% in ration without any adverse effect on productive performance and digestibility of nutrients in Japanese quails.
