Youth in India constitute a sizeable group and there can be no greater priority for development consensus than bringing the needs, rights and expectations of the youth to the centre-stage of development through a right based policy. A comprehensive National Youth Policy provides direction to youth-focused interventions by the Central and State governments and the voluntary sector, empowering young people for affirmative and positive action and transforming their life. Recognising the need for an integrated and collaborative approach to youth development programmes in the country, The National Youth Policy 2012 seeks to ensure that youth needs and concerns are mainstreamed into overall national development policies.
