Democracy plays pivotal role in the greater part of the worldin the contemporary world of Ideologies, Principles, Science and Technology, Information Generation and Globalization. Democracy defined “as the government of the people, by the people, and for the people” by Abraham Lincoln. Countries like Great Britain, United States of America and India follows the democratic Ideologies and Principles in governmental administration, economic activities as well as. United States of America also called the oldest democracy in the world and India is the largest democracy in the world. Almost all the countries of the world are greatly influenced by the Democracy and its usefulness.
The present paper titled “DEMOCRACY IN SIKKIM: PRE-MERGER PERSPECTIVE (Special Reference to the Role of First Chief Minister of Sikkim “KaziLhendupDorjee”) tries to seek, address and examine the democratic uprising and establishment of democracy in the Small kingdom of Sikkim. Above paper mainly tried toexplain Democratic system and its emergence in Sikkim before its merger with India. Sikkim merged with India and became 22nd state of Indian Union in 16th May 1975. Presently the political System of Sikkim is based on democratic principle but this is not so before 1975.
Further, this paper mainly focused on the role of the First Chief Minister of Sikkim, KaziLhendupDorjeein the establishment of democracy in Sikkim. This paper also explores the major factors which led to follow the principle of democracy by the Independence Sikkim before becoming 22nd states of India in the year 1975.
