The developments in the solar cell have gained more attention of the researchers worldwide, as it is the only sustainable source of energy for 21st century. There are different types of solar cells, which are competing with each other over efficiency; long term performance, and cost effectiveness. The first ever developed crystalline solar cell has its superiority, as high efficiency as well as drawback of highly expensive, which limited its wide applicability. The other interesting solar cells are solid state photoelectrochemical (SSPEC) and dye sensitized solar cells (DSSC). These are highly cost effective with better performance and easy to fabricate. The developments in SSPEC and DSSC over last decade showed more hope to increase its efficiency and performance. In this paper we provide a common platform for SSPEC and DSSC using poly(ethylene oxide), (PEO) based polymer electrolytes. Since there is no one hand literature available on progressive developments in this topic. So it is an urgent to provide the readers in a single platform detail progressive developments in PEO electrolyte for better understanding and future sustainable developments.
