Abstract

Microbial species exist in many environments that experience extremes of temperature, pH, chemical content and/ or pressure. Microorganisms can be grouped into broad categories according to their temperature ranges for growth; psychrophiles, mesophiles, thermophiles and hyperthermophiles. Thermophilesgrow readily at temperature of 45°C to 65°C. Thermophilic fungi are common in soils and in habitats wherever organic matter heats up for any reason. The thermophilic fungi are valuable experimental systems for investigations of mechanisms that allow growth at moderately high temperature yet limit their growth beyond 60°C to 62°C. The concerned fungi are cultured on YpSs medium.
