Abstract

Performance of a helical Savonius Turbine was tested with the help of a 3D simulation Software. A helical Savonius Turbine with 90° twist and without shaft was modelled and simulation was carried with the help of Ansys Fluent software. The numerical results were obtained by solving incompressible steady and Realizable k-ε turbulence model. Performance parameters like static pressures on turbine blades were obtained. Static pressure distribution was studied and Coefficient of Static torque was calculated at different rotor positions. The simulation results were compared with experimental results. It was concluded that at certain rotor positions the value of Cts. is negative and efforts are made to study the physics of flow to explain the reason for the negative values of Cts. at certain positions of rotor. Finally the simulations results are compared with experimental results.
