Trends in the Variation of Shear Modulus with Size of Nanomaterials

Abstract

A theoretical model is developed to incorporate the trend in the variation of one of these elastic constants, the Shear modulus, with the size of the nanoparticles. It is observed that the materials considered tend to become soft with the decrease in particle size, i.e., the value of shear modulus in the nano-range is observed to decrease with size.
