Abstract

Optical microcavities have recently been the subject of much interest and research activity, including Analytical Chemistry. A novel application of analytical chemistry has been in studying the air pollutants. The present communication brings out the designing and modelling aspects of the microcavities for optimising their performance in Pollution Control, besides briefly describing their important characteristics. The useful impact of the multilayer dielectric coatings on both sides of the spacer layer by the dual ion beam sputtering technique for reducing the losses and increasing the efficiency of the microcavities has been pointed out. Analysis of the figures of merit from the point of view of their optimisation for the particular application like Po llution Control has also been done. The paper is expected to be very useful for the researchers and the designers in this very important field of sustainability in the modern world.
