Abstract

Thin films of HgCr2S4 was prepared for thickness 2670 Å on amorphous glass substrate by chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. The X-ray diffraction analysis of HgCr2S4 confirms that deposited thin film was polycrystalline in nature having cubic structure. Compositions of films have been characterized by EDAX analysis. SEM showed that the substrate was well covered with films having some voids. Optical analysis study gives the value of fundamental absorption edge, the intercept lies between 1.6 2 eV, the corresponding absorption coefficient values were 37 × 104 to 41 × 104 and the indirect optical energy band gap for this sample was 2.07 eV.
