The Samarium doped Sr2CeO4 color tunable phosphors were successfully synthesized by solid state reaction method at temperature 1200° C for 4h. The present paper reports spectroscopic study of blue emitting Sr2CeO4 phosphor and Sr2CeO4 phosphor doped with the rare earth element Samarium. The powder samples were characterized by FTIR, XRD EDAX and PL. The X-Ray diffraction pattern reveals the crystallite size. The photoluminescence study of Sr2CeO4 reveals the emission in the blue region. The emission color can be changed by tuning activator's concentration in Sr2CeO4:Sm3+ phosphors. The doped compound emits strong red light when the concentration of the doped Sm3+ is 1.5%. The emission color can be changed by tuning activator's concentration in Sr2CeO4:Sm3+ phosphors. The effects of doping Sm3+ on the formation and luminescence properties were investigated.
