A novel attempt has been made to fabricate ZnO nanostructure by simple method of oxidizing zinc, employing direct electric current heating method. For the synthesis of ZnO nanostructure, in our study the galvanized iron wire was used as the source of zinc. The synthesized ZnO nanostructure was characterized using various optical techniques such as photoluminescence, FTIR spectroscopy. The ZnO formation was confirmed from the spectra of different optical studies and also determined by SEM with EDAX. Also the DSSC was fabricated with the layer of grown ZnO nanostructure on TiO2 and studied the photocurrent. Our DSSC device doesn't show prominent I-V characteristics, rather noticed a diode characteristic.
