Abstract

The field of hydro power is expanding at a very brisk pace, and newer ideas and applications are being suggested by the designers and researchers in this field. A short review note on the concepts and applications of the technology has been presented. The Hydrostatic Dam Installation, Turbine Installation in River, and Tidal Power have been briefly discussed. The power output analysis and the design aspects of the various types of turbines along with their suitability for the particular cases have been reviewed, with a view to optimize the power output, The challenges in the application of the wave power and the ocean thermal energy have been outlined. It is expected that this short review will be useful for the design engineers and the researchers entering the field.
