From this study we report Cu/p-CuI//R-C18/(I−/I3−)/CAC/ITO new electrochemical device for the first time as a sandwiched type dye-sensitized solar cell. Coconut shell activated charcoal (CAC) was used as the counter electrode in the electrochemical device. A remarkable photocurrent enhancement was obtained with CAC thin film deposited from doctor blade method on to the dye layer to operate the redox reactions of I-/I-3 redox couple inside the pours of the activated carbon layer.
