Energy is a basic requirement for economic development. Every sector of India economy, industry, agriculture, transport, commercial and domestic needs input of energy [7]. Now-a-days coal fire-based power plant is replaced with supercritical power plant and ultra-supercritical-based power plant. In this paper, we have to analyze about the designing of fixed roof heavy fuel oil (HFO) storage tank. There are various industrial code and standard for designing, fabrication, installation, inspection and commissioning of fixed roof storage tanks. The main objective of this project is “How to design a fixed roof HFO storage tank”, its basic rule, procedures, construction and operation of a storage tank [3]. A fixed roof storage tank of 2000M3 capacity is designed taking the standard technical specification 2‘ 500MW Neyveli New Thermal Power Project, Tamil Nadu [4]. The tank functional parameters such as diameter, height, etc. were calculated using basic design equations; detailed calculations were also carried out for mechanical and structural components of the tank, using API standard codes, equations and procedures. For a tank of 2000M3 working capacity with designed height of the tank is taken as 10.5m and tank diameter of 16.5m [4]. A prototype of the designed tank was fabricated and successfully tested.
