Prosopis cineraria (Khejri) is one of the most important genera of Rajasthan with multifarious benefits including medicinal. Crude aqueous extract of tree bark viz 800, 1000, 1200 mg/kg BW of Prosopis cineraria were administered orally to adult female Swiss albino mice for a period of 65 days. The animals received treatment before, during and after gestation. The fertility and gestation indexes were found to be 100 in all the three treated as well as control groups where as it is observed that 800mg/kgBW of dose was best effective in decreasing litter size in female Swiss albino mice. On the other hand post-natal viability index number was lowered with decreased weaning index number. For the first time, our study in female Swiss albino mice confirms the traditional uses of bark as an agent for population control.
