Abstract

Petroleum based fuels play a vital role in rapid depletion of conventional energy sources along with increasing demand and also major contribution of air pollutants. The main purpose of the present work is to study and analyze the effect, performance and exhaust emission characteristics of a single cylinder internal combustion engine fueled with bio diesel blend at different loads, i.e., No load condition, 1kw, 1.5kw, 2kw, 2.5kw& 3kw at an engine speed of 1500rpm/min. The bio diesel used in the present experimental work is sapota seed oil (Manilkara zapota oil (MZO). A test is performed on an engine fueled with diesel and four different blends of diesel. Biodiesel (B15, B20, B25, B30) made of waste cooking oil are used to analyze results. The emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbon (HC), oxides of nitrogen (NOX) and oxygen (O2) are measured and are compared with bio diesel blends and diesel. The experimental results shows exhaust emissions of bio diesel blends are lower than diesel fuel.
