“Antifungal activities of medicinal plants against root rot in chilli caused by Sclerotium roflsii.

Abstract

Medicinal plants are rich source of bioactive antifungal properties. An aqueous leaves extract of Polyalthia longifolia, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn and Prunus amygdalus were in vitro evaluate for their percentage of inhibition on radial mycelial growth of Sclerotium rolfsii causing root rot in chilles. The aqueous leaves extract was made in 10%, 25%, 75% and control (i.e. without treatment 100%) concentration. In present studies the antifungal activity of medicinal plant leaves extract were done by food poisoned technique. Among all three plant leaves extract Polyalthia longifolia recorded strong inhibition 62.50% percent of inhibition with 6mm inhibited mycelial at 25 percent aqueous concentration after 24 hours incubation period. The Prunus amygdalus gave moderate percent of inhibition 40% percent of inhibition with 15mm inhibited mycelial at 10 percent aqueous concentration after 24 hours incubation period. The least antifungal activity observed by Hibiscus rosa-synensis Linn as zero percent of inhibition with 0mm inhibited mycelia at 10 percent concentration after 24 of incubation period. The present study was uncertain to investigate the inhibitory effects of Polyalthia longifolia, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis Linn and Prunus amygdalus leaf extract on the inhibition of the Sclerotium rolfsii.
