Siwa Oasis is a natural depression about 23m below sea level. Siwa depression covers about 295, 198 feddans boundary around human activities in Siwa Oasis, of which about 48347 feddans have been cultivated in 2015. Siwa Oasis is located north of the sand dunes belts of the Great Sand Sea. The study aims to economically evaluate hazards of sand dunes movement (SDM) and its impact on agriculture development in south of Siwa Oasis and the required adaptation measures.
The total area affected by the SDM is about 50629 feddans. The total cost of economic losses as a result of SDM risk is estimated to 3206.7 Million LE. The total protecting cost the cultivated area, roads and drainage of SDM risk in Siwa Oasis are estimated to 167.6 Million LE.
