Abstract

The present paper describes the nutrition profile and associated factors responsible for under nutrition among rural children in the age group below 1 year to 15 years belonging to Yamunanagar district. Nutritional status of rural pre-school and school children of Yamunanagar district was studied. It was observed that more than 59% children irrespective of age and sex suffered from malnutrition. While assessing the degree of malnutrition 38.6% male and 43.3% female children with respect to weight for age: 38.1% male and 41.2% female children with respect to height for age and 41% male and 41.5% female children with respect arm circumference for age (by number of standard) were normal and remaining suffered from various grades of under nutrition. Dietary intake pattern of children revealed that food was deficient in energy compared to RDA for Indians in particular which ultimately resulted in nutritional deficiency disorders.
