This study examined the impact of productive safety net programme on household food calorie intake in rural Ethiopia. It analyzes cross-section data collected from 200 small-holder farming households in rural areas of Kamba district. Propensity score matching following probit regression was employed to examine the actual impact of the programme in the study area. The estimated result indicates that productive safety net programme has a significant and positive contribution to improve household food calorie intake. In particular, productive safety net programme has raised physical food calorie intake by 968.28 kilo calorie among the beneficiary households. Probit analysis showed family size, land size, livestock ownership, total family income and amount of food aid received significantly influenced household participation in the productive safety net programme in the study area. As expected, only amount of food aid received was negatively and significantly influenced household participation in the programme.
