Abstract

This paper describes an analysis of village level data on lease transaction. Viewing these transactions as constituting a market for leased land, the analysis seeks to bring out the variation in “rent per acre” being affected by various factors arising from both demand side and supply side under fixed tenurial arrangement studied from an irrigated village of Hirakud Command area in western Odisha. Applying the Log-Linear regression (OLS) estimation with dummy variables it is found that the quality of land and nature of the tenants are the major factors affecting the rent per acre.
