Abstract

Make-in-India is aflagship programme of Government of India launched on September 25, 2014 by honourable Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi with a promise to enhance the ease of doing business in India. Programme is aimed at creating a competitive business environment in the country to attract the foreign as well as domestic investors and providea boost to the manufacturing sector of the country. Importance of manufacturing sector cannot be denied. Our manufacturing sector has been a cause of concern as it has moved with a very sluggish growth in the pastdecades with 15–17% share in the economy which is much lower than other emerging and developing economies in the world. Every Government has put a lot of efforts to give boost to this sector through various policies. Make in India Programme is a megaeffort of NDA Government in this direction. Current paper is an endeavour to analyse the progress of the programme and to have a view of the extent the programme is moving towards achieving its goal.
