Women are the Real Architects of Society-Harriet Beecher Stowe.
India is in its sixth decade of independence and it is on the threshold of the 21st century. Despite the five decades of planned economic development, the achievement in the sphere of women empowerment is considerably discouraging. In India, women constitute nearly 50 per cent of total population. Real empowerment of women would happen only by adding more value on their contribution to the family and the society. Women empowerment is a process in which women challenge the existing norms and culture, to effectively promote their well being. The participation of women in Self Help Groups (SHGs) made a significant impact on their empowerment both in social and economical aspects. Thus, the better planning and implementation of the intervention with regular support to SHG can result in even better the socio economic change. Hence, SHG can be considered as a major tool for socio-economic transformation which leads to inclusive growth of our country.
