Abstract

The domestic savings and investments of Indian economy have been compiled according to industrial classification of economic units such as public sector, private sector and household sector. In the case of household sector, their saving comprises saving in financial assets and physical assets. The saving in financial assets includes currency held by them, deposits with banks, contractual savings like life insurance funds, provident and pension funds, and investment in small savings, shares and debentures and units of mutual funds. Saving in physical assets covers the purchase/construction of houses, farms, and land investment etc., the growth of the mutual funds industry, banks have increased their participation in the provision of mutual funds services. The increased involvement of bank and entry of foreign players and customers made aware of the differences between mutual funds services and insured deposits provide other related services.
