The history of Indian microfinance industry has seen a new micro finance arrangement which has changed the overall traditional financial pattern in India. So, the study is an attempt to examine the inter region variation of self help groups in India. For this purpose, some items have been selected namely number of SHGs, Number of SHGs with saving linkage, number of SHGs disbursed with loan, amount of loan disbursed, number of SHGs with loan outstanding and amount of loan outstanding. The finding of the study shows the positive growth SHGs in all regions. The Southern region has noticed highest growth rate of SHGs. This study also found that Number of SHGs with saving linkage, number of SHGs disbursed with loan, amount of loan disbursed, number of SHGs with loan outstanding and amount of loan outstanding are increasing continuously in India. It is a good signal for the micro finance development of the country.
