Abstract

This paper aims to analyse the pivotal role that social media plays in causing and mitigating disasters. Through four extensive case studies, we plan to highlight the problems and their solutions. Through many social media platforms, the sentiments of communities are hurt which can have disastrous consequences. We analyse, how through a click, one can change the mob mentality and cause riots. As of 2022, the average time spent by people on social media platforms daily is 2 hours and 27 minutes. A lot can happen in this time duration. The content received by people affects their subconscious minds, moulding their opinion in many ways: from being ignorant of a fatal virus to causing hatred for specific communities of the World.
