Computer modeling has revolutionized almost all areas of engineering and science, allowing the practitioner to work in a virtual environment where numerical models of great complexity can be handled with relative ease. There are different specific types of biomodels which can be as, virtual biomodels, computational biomodels (pure visualization of anatomical structures), and physical biomodels (surgical implants and surgical training). Physical models can be made at macroscale and micro scale depending on the processing and functions it has to perform. The macroscale physical biomodels are used for the design and preclinical testing of surgical implants and preoperative planning. The microscale biomodels of trabecular bone are used to examine and link with the scaffolds of bone for tissue engineering.
The idea of this article is to give some recent review of the rapid protopyping process and its applications in medical and dental sciences.
