Disruptive innovation in higher education: challenges in application of e-learning in conventional university system

Higher education in India needs complete transformation because the requirements of the biggest stakeholders (students and job providers) are changing. To pace up with the recent demands, universities need to bring disruptive innovation to make present education system more affordable and accessible to the students. This disruption is possible through investment in low cost and high impact e-learning technology. The paper is descriptive in nature and is an outcome of extensive study of literature. The focus is on implementing innovative disruption model in higher education. This study lays down constraints and challenges that may be faced to bring about e-learning technology. It also suggests the ways through which traditional universities can integrate these disruptive technologies in extending their capacities. The study can be beneficial for the policy makers and university administrators in taking their long term investment decisions.
