Abstract

Mining Industry has tremendous employment potential providing employment opportunities to the country's work force. Since, the mining is a primary industry its growth depends on industrial growth especially of the manufacturing industries serving agriculture sector. Mining Industry is playing a significant role in the overall economic development of India. The mining being an important sector of an Indian economy, its growth influences trade, industry and commerce in other sectors too considerably. Social security system is a vital unit of organizational machinery. Right from the Vedic time, the concept of social security was incepted as “wishing everyone to be happy”, free from ill health, enjoy it has become an idea of human dignity and social justice. It is increasingly giving importance as it influenced the efficiency, productivity, moral attitude and psychological well-being of personnel. Employee social security measures in mining industry throws light on social security measures followed in Donimalai Iron Ore Mine, Bellary District, India. The study enlightens the concept of social security measures; it also highlights the schemes of social security in India. The last part offers suitable suggestions to strengthen the social security measures in a sample unit.
