Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between core self-evaluations (CSE) and stress among college students. The findings from a sample of 135 bachelor and master students revealed that core self-evaluations and general health explained 47% of the variance in stress. The results also showed that core self-evaluations explained 21% of the variance in general health. In addition, general health moderated the relationship of core self-evaluations and stress. The results revealed that 1) CSE had a negative relationship with low general health, 2) CSE had a negative relationship with stress, 3) low general health had a positive relationship with stress, and 4) general health did moderate the relationship between CSE and stress. CSE explained 27 percent of variance in stress and after including the general health of this relationship, variance increased to 44 percent.
