Abstract

Today's, organization downsizing has become one of the most famous and most popular managerial strategies. Nevertheless, still the most important question that discussed in this regard and despite much research which remained unanswered is that whether downsizing can improve organizational performance or not? Although many researchers believe that downsizing leads to improve organizational performance, but it should be noted that downsizing may cause a lot of material and spiritual consequences on employees and even may cause social chaos. Studies show that the most important reason for this is lack of attention to human resources of the organization during downsizing and its relationship with organizational performance. Given the issue, this paper by reviewing the literature related to the topic and by using of dynamic strategic capabilities and strategic human resource management presents a model entitled “a comprehensive model of responsible downsizing strategy” which represents a relationship between downsizing and the organization's performance as well as other factors affecting this relationship.
