Abstract

Divorce is of the most stressful losses and leads to emotional turmoil and behavioral issues in individuals. In the meantime, women are more vulnerable to the consequences of divorce than men are. The present researchwas aimed to investigate the effectiveness of psychological capital intervention on mental welfare of divorced women. It was a semi-experimental research with pre-test and post-test with control group. The population consisted of 30 divorced women who were chosen using available sampling method. The individuals were identical in terms of age, social-economic conditions, lack of physical disease and having a standard deviation below the average in Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale. Afterwards, the participants were divided into control and experimental groups. Ten sessions of two hours were presentedfor the experimental group using educational structures model of Luthans et al. (2007) in order to promote psychological capitalby focusing on each of the components of hope, optimism, self-efficacy and withstanding. However, no intervention was performed on the control group. The data collection tool in the present investigation was Ryff Psychological Well-Being Scale (1989). The research data was analyzed using SPSS software and independent t-test. The results demonstrated that there was a significant relationship between the control group and the experimental group after carrying out psychological capital intervention (p<0.001). Moreover, the amount of mental welfarewas significantly increasedin experimental groupcompared to pre-test and control group. According to the finding, it can be stated that intervention program of Luthans was effective in increasing psychological well-being of divorced women. Therefore, it could be an appropriate strategy for increasing mental well-being.
