Abstract

Identification of training needs of individual employees during appraisals is one of the major responsibilities of all superiors. The development and career growth of employees depend a lot on this identification. Therefore, a need was felt to analyse whether all the training needs identified during the appraisal were of equal importance or there were a few which were more critical than the other in terms of the impact it has on an individual's overall performance. The paper titled ‘Identifying Critical Training Needs from Performance Appraisal Ratings’, is based on the secondary data of performance appraisal ratings given on 11 parameters to the non-executive employees recruited on compassionate ground in a public sector utility. Analysis using statistical tools have shown that critical training needs do have an impact on the overall rating that an employee gets.
