Librarians’ professional ethics has recently gained credit in our country. Also, librarians’ organizational commitment can be equally significant since libraries at universities are considered investigation centers at universities. Hence, the current investigation was conducted in order to evaluate the relationship between librarians’ professional ethics and organizational commitment so as to come to profitable and precious findings. These can pave the way for further progress and development which is hoped to boost librarians’ organizational commitment through the presentation of proper principles with regard to professional ethics. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between professional ethics and organizational commitment regarding academic librarians in Sistan and Baluchestan, Iran.
In this study, the relationship between professional ethics and organization commitment among academic librarians in Sistan and Baluchestan was investigated by means of the descriptive method of correlational type. The findings obtained through questionnaires we analyzed through SPSS software and other statistics techniques namely frequency distribution, central indexes (mean), standard deviation, t-test, Pearson correlation and independent t.
Academic librarians in Sistan and Baluchestan obtained an mean score of 3.61 regarding organization commitment and 4.34 concerning professional ethics. The Pearson correlation index between affective commitment and professional ethics was 0.298. It was 0.209 between norm commitment and professional ethics. This index was 0.105 regarding constant commitment and professional commitment being less than other aspects of organizational commitment.
The results revealed that there exists a positive relationship between organization commitment and professional ethics. However, no significant relationship was found between constant commitment and professional ethics. Moreover, considering expertise (librarian, non-librarian), there was a significant difference between librarians when it came to the organization commitment variable. But as for age, work experience, and gender; no significant difference was discerned in the variables of professional ethics and organization commitment
