This paper examines the Human Resource Planning (HRP) in the independent retail sector in India. The paper reports the results of 300 qualitative interviews with employees of three select corporate retail organizations in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India. HRP in the business practice should represent generally used and key activity for Human Resource Management (HRM) because HRP helps to make optimum utilization of the human resources in the organization and it helps to keep away from wastage of human resources. HRP allows to predict the future manpower requirements and also to estimate number and kind of employees who will be required by the organization in future. In the long run, the success of any organization depends on whether the right people are in the right places at the right time, which is the nature of human resource planning. The survey has done through the structured questionnaire to find out the facts and the main aim of this study is to find out the HR Planning Practices in the select three retail organizations and suggest appropriate measures to be taken to run their organizations in a smooth way.
