Medical Geography deals with health-condition especially different borne diseases and their cumulative effects on human being on geo-spatial context. In India and West Bengal in particular, health of children and youths of both sexes have always been the major concern in recent policies and plans. Keeping both the subject and the fact in mind, this research work peeps into and scans the health condition of adolescent girls’ students of upper primary girls school to evaluate the levels of healthiness.
The study is based on primary health survey of one hundred and twenty eight (128) girls of age between 12 to 13 yrs. of different socio-economic status of Dubrajpur Hatibari Sammilani Balika Vidyamandir under Dubrajpur G.P., Bankura. This anthropometric measurement survey i.e., measurement of height and weight in relation to their specific age finally highlights that most of the adolescent school-going-girls have been registered malnourished.
The paper further investigates reasons of imbalance in both mental and physical growth among the studied girls. The said work has been executed by door to door survey with definite questionnaire and the measurement of nutritional dimension have been computed through Gomez's and Waterlow's classification. Other parameters like lifestyle of the families, financial status, orthodox myths, hygienic awareness etc. are also taken into account to evaluate the causes of malnourishment. Finally attempt has been made to highlight possible measures to combat the problem at grass root level.
